The artwork vs. the gallery space

The lecture will investigate the role of the gallery space/architecture in influencing the production, reception and reading of an artwork. Using a variety of scenarios from the artists practice, she will examine situations where artworks have been produced in direct response to the gallery architecture alongside examples of artworks which are re-situated and re-imagined in a variety of exhibition making strategies.

Niamh O’Malley (b. Mayo, Ireland, 1975) uses video, drawing, painting and sculpture, to examine ways in which we try to access the world through images. Her works o en act as lters and invite us to enter the spaces between objects and places and our ideas of them.
