CIS networking journey 2017

Since the late 19th century, Turin is one of the most important industrial centres in Italy Due to its steel, machinery, chemical, textile and automotive industry. Over the last decades, the city transformed from an industrial centre into a creative hub.

From 10th to 16th October 2017 the “Torino Design of the City” festival took place in the UNESCO City of Design with an intensive programme including workshops, events, conferences, exhibitions and design tours. As part of the festival also the General Meeting of the World Design Organization took place with international design experts, representatives of design initiatives and design organisations from more than 60 countries worldwide.

In 2008, the first networking journey of the Creative Industries Styria lead to the first World Design Capital Torino. In 2014, the city was designated as “UNECO City of Design” and was integrated into the UNESCO Creative Cities network. Reason enough for the Creative Industries Styria to visit the city again in 2017 to get an insight into the design and creative scene. The programme of the journey included visits to young design studios like Curve Studio & Feel Desain, Casa Jasmina and Carmadesign and internationally renowned companies like Pininfarina and L’Opificio as well as meetings with Italian designers. The journey ended with a visit to the Venice Art Biennale.
