The furniture by the ambitious label amm – architektInnen machen moebel (Furniture by architects) are innovative, authentic and very much attached to their local roots. Due to supreme craftmanship and refined materials from regional woods, the pieces are not conventional nor boring, without any concession to passing market trends.
The Faculty of Architecture at Technical University Graz is the only university in Europe that offers a seminar on the manufacturing of furniture. With the help of professional designers, architects and carpenters, the graduates design and manufacture 1:1 models at the wood workshop of the Institute of Spatial Design. As a follow-up, selected prototypes are further refined in order to bring them on the market. When it comes to designs that exceed the production capabilities of the workshop, amm cooperate with Styrian companies like BOXMARK. Together they have developed a unique endless leather strap to be used for exclusive furniture. The chair featuring those straps and other pieces can already be purchased through amm’s partner companies.
The exhibition at designforum Steiermark showcased selected pieces by the label, representing a wide range of seating furniture, from a sculptural stool of plum wood, to an elegant lounge chair of refined leather and a folding chair, honoured with the Austrian Interior Design Award.
The amm team consists of Judith Augustinovič, Rainer Eberl & students.
