Achieving Business Success Through Design: Let’s Talk About It
Since 2018, the Austrian Design Talks at Schloss Hollenegg have followed a simple yet effective concept: clients and designers behind successful design projects sit down together, fostering in-depth discussions that reveal key insights from both sides. This isn’t about scratching the surface; it’s about digging deeper with the audience. At the end of the two days, one question always takes centre stage: What makes a design collaboration truly successful, and what impact does it have on business?
In 2025, the Austrian Design Talks will celebrate their 10th edition. Secure your ticket now and get inspired at Schloss Hollenegg!
#1 | Swisspearl: Rethinking Cement Martin Mostböck, AID – ArchitectureInteriorDesign & Hans-Jörg Kasper, Swisspearl
They are called “Hive”, “Kolonna” and “Twista” — and they have also earned accolades such as the Red Dot Award. These objects, designed by architect and designer Martin Mostböck, create spaces where nature, design and everyday life are reconciled. They may well serve as eye-catchers on the terrace, yet they still offer plants the space they need to thrive. For Hans-Jörg Kasper, Head of Marketing and strategic visionary of the corporate group, they are more than just outdoor accessories: Swisspearl stands for quality of life, for durability, and for the courage to embrace reduction. And for a design approach that is grounded in the best sense of the word — and at the same time forward-looking.
#2 | Molto Luce: The Future of Office Lighting Christian Hofwimmer, Molto Luce & Michael Fink, Molto Luce
LENS 2 is revolutionising office lighting with innovative sensor matrix technology and minimalist design. Michael Fink, design engineer and in-house product designer at Molto Luce, and Christian Hofwimmer, Head of Product Management and internal project lead for LENS 2, offer insights into the development of the luminaire.
Molto Luce has been active in the lighting industry for 40 years and sees itself not just as a manufacturer, but as a creative lighting partner. With strong design expertise, technical innovation and a dedicated in-house team, the company has been creating bespoke lighting solutions with character for over four decades.
#3 | Weitzer Woodsolutions: Where Timber Meets High Tech Wolfgang Knöbl, Weitzer Woodsolutions & Andreas Straßmayr, KEBA
This collaboration between technology company KEBA and Weitzer Woodsolutions is a prime example of success: the WoodCover, a high-tech wooden casing for the KEBA Wallbox P30. Instead of plastic, this version features natural materials — crafted with precision and a sense of responsibility.
Both companies shared the conviction that technical excellence, design clarity and ecological responsibility can be effectively combined. The result is a strong, innovative and aesthetically pleasing interplay between technology and nature. With the WoodCover, the Wallbox becomes a true eye-catcher — and a statement of a sustainable lifestyle.
#4 | Cucina Alchimia: Alchemy of Space, Form and Function Simon Pointner, Studio FREUDE & Michael Moser, Cucina Alchimia
The collaboration between the culinary collective “Cucina Alchimia” and the Vienna-based design studio FREUDE is a prime example of how brand identity can become an experience. Michael Moser, whose background with “breadedEscalope” has given him a keen sense for conceptual design, joined forces with Simon Pointner in search of a form that would capture the experimental character of “cucinaAlchimia”.
The result is a pared-back yet expressive design language that combines graphic clarity with poetic depth – creating a strong visual identity for the collective.
#5 | Lobmeyr: Homage to the LineBodo Sperlein & Johannes Rath, J. & L. Lobmeyr
Designed by London-based designer Bodo Sperlein, the SCRIPT lighting series is inspired by the elegance of typography. Gracefully curved brass bands and precisely integrated wiring echo the flowing movement of handwritten lines, giving rise to a family of luminaires that impress with both sculptural presence and functional clarity.
The series combines classical crystal elements with modern minimalism, subtly referencing the design ideals of the Wiener Werkstätte — an influence clearly reflected in its refined formal language. Johannes Rath, Managing Director of J. & L. Lobmeyr, and Bodo Sperlein offer insights into their collaboration — into the craftsmanship, technical precision, and the vision of creating modular systems that allow for the greatest possible design freedom in individual lighting solutions.
#6 | Artweger: Design with a Double Purpose Christoph Pauschitz, GP designpartners & Michael Walkoun, Artweger
JOICE is a spacious walk-in shower with a barrier-free entry that can be transformed into a fully functional bathtub in just a few simple steps – space-saving, elegant, and universally usable. The design is the work of Christoph Pauschitz, Managing Owner of GP designpartners, who, together with his team, created a product that is both highly functional and emotionally appealing.
Michael Walkoun, Head of Product Development at Artweger, provides technical insights into the development and realisation of the project.
#7 | Sprinters: Sustainable Success Under Pressure Tomislav Bobinec, i say no to cheap design & Gerhard Steindl, Medienfabrik Graz
The rapidly growing digital print market demands ever greater flexibility from traditional print houses. Customers value the fast turnaround times and lower costs of digital printing. It was against this backdrop that Sprinters – the online print brand of Graz-based Medienfabrik – was launched.
Sprinters focuses on speed, regional ties and sustainability – qualities that are especially important to local and regional designers. The brand’s market entry was accompanied by Graz-based designer Tomislav Bobinec, who contributed both his expertise and user perspective to the process.
#8 | Hutter Acustix: Virtuosic Stage and Sound SpacesJohannes Kraus, Archipel Architekten & Elisabeth Hutter, Hutter Acustix
How can design intent, aesthetics, and technical challenges be brought together in such a way that the fundamental melody of the design language resonates in every detail? What does it take, within the dynamic triangle of architecture, acoustics, and craftsmanship, to create spaces that meet the highest artistic and acoustic standards?
Johannes Kraus, architect at Archipel Architekten, and Elisabeth Hutter, managing director of the joinery Hutter Acustix, which specialises in room acoustics, offer insights into a harmonious collaboration using two projects as examples: the stage of the music school in Schloss Gainfarn (Bad Vöslau) and the chamber music concert hall in Prein an der Rax.
#9 | Havel Healthcare: Restorative Functionality Bernhard Kaliauer, K I D – Kaliauer Industrial Design & Barbara Havel, Havel Healthcare
Ward trolleys in hospitals serve a clear purpose: they must carry everything required for smooth ward rounds. However, these requirements can vary greatly depending on the hospital and ward, often revealing weaknesses in the products currently available on the market.
Vienna-based company Havel Healthcare and industrial designer Bernhard Kaliauer set out in search of new solutions. The result is a modular system that can be individually configured according to specific needs. Today, the intelligent modular system includes over 700 components and makes a significant contribution to improving hospital processes and workflows.
