Design Month Graz has become a permanent and valued part in the event calendar of the city of Graz. From May 8 to June 7, 2020, Creative Industries Styria will organize the festival for the twelfth time, and will once more position the city of Graz as an international design destination.
In 2020, in addition to the format “Design in the City”, they will again stage the fashion event “assembly”, the “Fesch’ Markt” and the Fifteen Seconds Festival. The “Better Future Symposium” will deal with the issues of sustainability. The program also includes the exhibition “Walden” at the Hollenegg Castle for Design, the Design Battle at the Prödl carpentry and the exposition “Fantastic Plastic”.
In 2020, the Design Month Graz will focus on the topic “Better Future”.
Submissions that are connected to the program focus will be prioritized.

Content-related criteria for submissions
The format and type of the event – presentation, meeting, exhibition, workshop, a single activity or a series within the agenda – are up to the submitting party. The activity must be fully mapped out upon submission. We cannot consider sketches of ideas for projects and pieces of work in the conception phase.
- Individual initiative
The success of the submitted item/ activity on the agenda depends largely on the initiative of the submitting party. Design Month Graz can be understood as a marketing festival, which unites a variety of design events. However, this does not replace your personal commitment and self-marketing for the event.
All participants of Design Month Graz finance their own events. Creative Industries Styria cannot provide financial resources for the implementation! Those need to be acquired by the participants themselves.
All activities/ events must be fully elaborated, financed and of professional quality. Projects that are dedicated to the program focus will be prioritized.
An independent, national and international jury of experts will make sure that all activities of Design Month Graz meet the high quality standards of a UNESCO City of Design. The online registration form is the basis for their evaluation. Creative Industries Styria, together with the expert jury, will carefully review all submissions.
Formal criteria for submission
- Describe your project with every relevant key data by using the online form. Upload informative pictures describing the project (up to 4 pictures, size: max. 2 MB, landscape format, incl. picture credits).

Services of Creative Industries Styria
Creative Industries Styria, being the initiators and organizers of Design Month Graz, use all available marketing and public relations channels to communicate the events and activities regionally, nationally and internationally. Further, all information can be retrieved in German and English at www.designmonat.at and via the social media channels. Additionally, the weekly CIS newsletter provides information about the single activities and events.
Coordination of events
Creative Industries Styria have an overview of all submitted agenda events and activities, which enables the perfect placement of the submitted agenda activities and avoids overlaps.
Support in terms of marketing
Creative Industries Styria promote the entire program and Design Month Graz as one brand . Hence, they also support the marketing of all submitted events and activities on the agenda. Media work for individual activities is done in cooperation and coordination with the partners.
