Styria´s Next Chair Designer
Züco Design Contest
"Die Welle" designed by Architect Manfred Wolff-Plottegg was elected Styria's future chair.
In cooperation with Swiss furniture manufacturer ZÜCO Creative Industries Styria initiated a contest to find an architect/designer who would develop a prototype of a chair.
In the course of three workshops concepts and drafts were elaborated. In the workshops lead by Roland Zünd, the managing director of ZÜCO, the drafts were discussed and contiuative knowledge on the project was imparted. By the end of each workshop the jury elected the participants continuing in the contest.
The first workshop started with the following participants:
Andreas Weiter, Architect Rolf Seifert together with carpenter master Georg Mähring, Architect Manfred Wolff-Plottegg, yes architecture, Benjamin Pernthaler and Architect Markus Pernthaler.
At the start of the third workshop only three participants had remained: yes architecture, Benjamin Pernthaler and Architect Markus Pernthaler, and last but not least Architect Manfred Wolff-Plottegg, whose draft and prototype finally won the first prize.
The chair called "Die Welle (The Wave)" can be folded in various wasys while changeing its shape and transforming into ways of resting and sitting.
It was presented at the ORGATEC in Cologne with great success and will now be produced in series. The presentation can be seen under www.vimeo.com.
